Remembering George, Gerard, and Bob.

Where to begin?

These past few years have been difficult for all of us. Beyond a global pandemic, Practical Compassion along with many of you have had our share of grieving…we lost our founder and dear friend, George Zimmerman, early this year.

Then this summer one of our key Haitian partners, Rev. Gerard Morrisey, passed away from complications of diabetes and high blood pressure. Most recently, another huge supporter and encourager, Bob DeVitry passed away after a brief battle with cancer.

Many of you were personally impacted by those events, but even if you weren’t, I imagine you faced similar losses and trials this year.

A HUGE “Thank You” to everyone who gave in memory of these faithful, generous, and larger-than-life men.

As difficult as it has been for us, we know that many of our friends in Haiti are also suffering. Beyond dealing with COVID, our friends are facing extreme inflation and political unrest (we have a taste of that here), the assassination of their president, and a devastating earthquake.

Gas shortages are causing prices to jump as high a $27 (USD) per gallon and gang activity and kidnapping are making everyday life difficult and dangerous for many people.

Despite rampantly rising costs, Practical Compassion has a fixed budget for all our programs in Haiti—and our Haitian partners are doing their best to make those funds go as far as they can.

Sounds hopeless, doesn’t it.

And yet, because of this group of fiercely loyal, generous, and compassionate people, the schools and students we support are persevering and working toward an opportunity for a more hopeful future. The people you support are determined and their faith is strong.

In fact, Practical Compassion’s schools continue to have graduation percentages higher than the norm.

For example, Lovely Pierre, a student supported by your gifts, continues to succeed in medical school—and is one of the top students in her class.

We know you normally receive a photo of the student you support—but we wanted to let you know that because of the dangers in Haiti, we can’t obtain photos right now.

Please know, that the school you support is open and teaching, your students are learning, and your gifts are making a difference in these incredibly difficult days.

We appreciate your continued support and are hoping to raise $20,000 toward the cost of our programs.

Fred Windholz

President, Practical Compassion

Would you consider a year-end gift to bless the children of Haiti with an education and hope for the future?

Thank you for your friendship and support!
