A New Website, Medical Clinics and Graduations

May 2018

Dear friends of Practical Compassion,

We wanted to let you know what we have been up to with your generous support since our last update.

A New Website

We have worked hard to implement a new, more user-friendly website that we hope makes learning and giving to Practical Compassion a little easier: practicalcompassion.org.

Two Medical Clinics

  • Our Haitian medical team conducted their first solo medical clinics in October 2017 and March 2018, thanks to your gifts.
  • Because they did not need translators, the team saved money and time, which resulted in more patients receiving compassionate medical care.
  • As a result, your support served 435 patients and 85 dental patients at 3 locations in 3 days this March, and 471 patients and 98 dental patients at 3 locations in 3 days in October.

Orphanage and School Support

  • Your gifts continue to feed the orphans at Leurbourg (Lerebours)—who until Practical Compassion intervened last year, were showing signs of major malnutrition.
  • Your gifts also continue to provide a living wage for teachers at Liancourt and Bon Berger primary schools.
  • Gifts continue to fund the operation of our primary and secondary school at Pont Sonde, which includes a computer lab and provides a meal for each child.

A New English School

  • As a result of your investments, the Haitian administrators at Pont Sonde school will begin an English class next school year.
  • Run by a practical compassion student graduate, the classes will allow up to 60 students from grades 9 through 11 to learn an important, and highly valuable skill for employment in Haiti.
  • The Practical Compassion board will evaluate English class at the end of the school year to see if, and how we should proceed for the future.

University Students

Our vision for the nearly 7,000 students who have received scholarships from Practical Compassion is that, along with the hope it brings, the education will create opportunities for them to become leaders in education, medicine, infrastructure, politics, and business. This vision is coming true, as some of Practical Compassion’s earliest sponsored students are now attending university and secondary education studies. Thank you for making the dreams of these high-achieving students a reality.

How You Can Help?

Though the cost of university in Haiti is more affordable than here in the US, we are pressed as an organization to distribute our limited resources among so many ongoing and important needs. Please share our mission with your friends and family. Together, we can help these ambitious students accomplish their goals and create change for the future of Haiti.

Thank you for helping us support our Haitian friends,

The Board of Practical Compassion
